artists' registry policy statement

Adopted October 1999; Revised October 2007

I Purpose: The purpose of the Artists’ Registry is two-fold

  • To promote the work of individual artists, groups and arts organizations
  • To link potential patrons to those artists

II Definitions:

  • The Registry is a city publication created by the Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) and maintained as a directory of individual artists, groups and arts organizations and is not a public forum for speech of any kind.
  • The Registry is intended for use by people of all ages, backgrounds and experience.

III Participation:

  • Participation in the Registry is free of charge.
  • Once an entry is received and approved by the OCA, the listing will be posted to the Registry website.
  • Participants must agree to and understand the above listed definitions of the Registry. By submitting an entry, the participant accepts this.
  • Participants may make changes to their entries at any time. Changes will be posted by the OCA, once approved.
  • Annually, participants will be contacted by the OCA to confirm that entries are accurate (i.e. contact information).
  • Subject matter of all Registry entries will be the choice of the individual artist, group or arts organization. The OCA may reject an application or image which, in its opinion, does other than identify the participant and their medium or is inappropriate for the Registry or the space available.

IV Application Process:

  • Potential participants enter their information directly from the Registry site. Once submitted, the entry goes to the OCA for approval and posting to the website.
  • Potential participants represent that, by submitting an application, all information provided is true and correct.
  • Individual artists represent and warrant that they are the creator and copyright owner of any image or artistic work provided to the city for publication or display in the Registry and further that the display or publication will not violate the rights of any person.
  • Each listing will include contact information and up to 50 words which the artist, group or arts organization may use for a bio and/or a description of his/her work.
  • Each listing may include one image. Participants must upload their own image according to listed guidelines on the site; the OCA cannot scan or upload images for participants.
  • The OCA will inform the public that Registry participants retain copyrights to all work displayed or published in the Registry. The Registry participant agrees the OCA does not assume responsibility for piracy, infringement or unauthorized copying and use of the participant’s images. In submitting an image to the Registry, the participant agrees to assume such risks.
  • Only one entry per medium/category will be accepted.
